This is a part of a series of stacks that are about artistic tendencies in anime (and that border the fine line between sophisticated and pretentious).

This stack is a work in progress.

Anime adaptations of various visual novels. Their total number is clearly more than the allowable limit, so I tried to add mainly adaptations of novels by well-known brands (Key, 5pb, Aquaplus), or those with well-known adaptations. Given the many sequels, spin-offs, and versions (especially in the case of the Fate series), I added only very first anime in the franchise.

An assorted stack of anime series focusing on Human-Robot relationships and interactions. The relationships depicted may or may not be romantic in nature and can encompass philosophical themes of compassion, morality, co-existence, and violence in some cases.

For anime with sequels, only the first seasons of each have been included in the stack. The genres include (but are not limited to) Drama, Slice-of-Life, Romance, and Psychological.

Anime with Cyborg characters have been excluded from the list, with the exception of Ghost in the Shell because of a major plot point.

Shows where the main character's mother couldn't evade the death flags (massive skill issue tbh)

Shows are only included if the mom actually bears any weight on the story

Does not include shows where there is one main main character and multiple other "main" characters, with one having a dead mom (ex. Nijika from Bocchi The Rock, Kyouko from Madoka Magica, etc.)

idfk = not explained at all (to my knowledge)

idk she got sick or something = any illness that isn't specified

kind of mom = parental figure who is not a biological or legally adoptive mother

Animeby Based__

While 2022 and 2023 both gave us an outstanding amount of new and original anime, what will 2024 bring us? Fortunately I'm here to create a list of shows and movies that I believe will define this year for new anime. I have not read the sources for anything I'm listing, meaning no manga insights, light novel spoilers, or visual novel validations. Everything listed below is based on whether the entry synopsis, poster, or title intrigues me, or whether I know of something that has made me excited for this show.

Criteria:
- The entry has to be a newly airing franchise (specifically not a sequel/prequel season), remakes are fair game though.
- The entry has to start airing within 2024 (meaning Frieren is going to miss this list unfortunately).
- The entry has to end it's season/cour by the end of Winter 2025.
- The entry has to be listed on MAL.

This list was made before the start of the Winter 2024 season, and is a reflection of the shows that were announced to be airing at some point in 2024.

Do you hate it inland? Do you like beaches? How about the sea? The anime in this stack will bring you for a trip by the coast, near the vast blue oceans and the golden sand. The anime you'll find here are set (mostly) in coastal areas of Japan and the world, or even in the sea itself; these are seaside stories.

This stack lists various anime with coastal, oceanic or maritime settings. They may be "ocean worlds" or just involve shoreside locations (e.g. a seaside town); however, they all share a setting characterised by proximity to a marine environment. Naturally, each series has varying levels of emphasis on these nautical elements.
