Jesus Christ, the transition scenes between the storytelling really hits the dark side this chapter.

Life is cruel.

Wow, screwed up much? Isn't codependency great?

Oh wow. Aside from the obvious heart-wrenching codependency between Sato and Shio, which will without a doubt become a huge problem for them in the long run, the thing that caught my eye most here was Sato specifically. Throughout the entire series, she's been seemingly unsympathetic to those around her, caring single-mindedly about keeping herself and Shio together. But now she's had to kill her best friend, who she previously thought she could throw away with ease, just like she did the artist and almost Asahi, just because she didn't understand Sato. She still did it without hesitation last chapter, but as we can see now, having to do that completely tore her apart. There is still a normal girl under this psychopath, though this incident will probably stay with her and influence her actions for the rest of the series, likely by trauma, regret, depression, Sato going even more insane, or a mix of the above.

This detail in Sato's character may very well be why she decided they "need to find a new castle" last chapter -- could be less as caution against getting caught, and more that the apartment from now on will only ever remind her of what she once did to the one person in the world she could call "friend." She wants to hide from that reality.

And on top of all that, we get to take a clearer peak at what Shio's mother was like. Trying desperately to be a normal mother, optimistic of her undeniably terrible situation, while at the same time broken beyond repair, and clearly unstable.

Amazing followup to the previous great chapter.

Those were some pretty well done transitions in this chapter.

wow that's a really interesting take on it actually, thanks i see Satou differently now, what i thought is that she is just emotionless psychopath who didnt even care for her one and only friend who actually cared for her.

I wish there was a discussion for ch 26 as it's probably my fav up till this point but anyways this chapter was interesting like what happened to shio mom and her is so tragic like the father is so fucking horrible what a wretched monster. looking at things from shio's perspective, seeing her discover the blood stained shirt and blood stain on the ground, trying to be an independent person and stuff it's a little refreshing and yeah it's like shio is growing up a little and actually thinking about things more deeply and her codependent relationship with sato

"Ah, I get it. I...was always in pain."
