The British Film Institute has a poll every 10 years of the greatest films of all time, measured by the frequency of each film's appearance on lists submitted by hundreds of critics. So each critic submits a list of what they believe to be the ten best films of all time, and then the institute compiles those lists into the overall top 50. I would like to do something similar. Any members of this club are free to respond on this thread with the anime they believe to be THE TEN BEST OF ALL TIME. Interpret the word "best" as you wish. Once we have 100 responses, I will compile them into an overall list. Separate seasons will be counted as one show. My Unranked Ballot: Legend of the Galactic Heroes Cowboy Bebop Akira Millennium Actress Giant Robo: The Day The Earth Stood Still Tekkon Kinkreet Blood+ Now And Then, Here and There Mawaru Penguindrum Digimon Tamers

You know, despite all that I have seen I am somehow struggling to pick a 10 greatest of all time. Even among my own ratings, I wouldn't just pick the few I've actually rated a 10. I think how timeless a show is definitely plays a role in making this list. All that being considered, here is my humble contribution: Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu Millenium Actress Berserk (1997) Cowboy Bebop Ping Pong the Animation Kaze Tachinu Patlabor 2 the Movie Ghost in the Shell Monster Nodame Cantabile

| This would be my list; my top ten favorites would be slightly different, but if I'm thinking of sheer quality, there are a couple in my top ten list that are flawed enough and the nostalgia factor is high so I have replaced them with the last two, which I have seen more recently for the first time (last few years) but were so overwhelmingly good that I think they're worthy of a slot. Only entries I've actually completed, so no Frieren and Apothecary yet. Such a list is always a bit random anyway, and I have a bias to conservative picks which stood the test of time.

Considering the works as a whole, not particular seasons and ignoring movies (unless they're part of a bigger series). Also take into account I haven't watched pretty much anything from 2023-2025 and still missing a ton of 2021-2022: - Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu (Legend of the Galactic Heroes) - Monster - Mushishi - Ashita no Joe - Versailles no Bara - Kingdom - Steins;Gate - Ie Naki Ko (the 70s one, not Remy) - Hyouge Mono - Kemono no Souja Erin And because I can't stop myself, Honorable mentions that could perfectly be in: - Akage no Anne - Made in Abyss - Hunter X Hunter (2011) - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan wo Erandeiraremasen (S3 still pending) - Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 - Les Miserables: Shoujo Cosette

Hey, im not into anime recently (mostly due to the community focused on teens and hypersexualized bodies with no focus on realism or whatever) BUT BUT Here are my top20. I know it says top10 but hey, free recommendations and i assure u all are pretty good. I myself only have the top4 of this list "blocked" the rest, depends on the day I order them differently. Okay, not like that but you got the point. 1. LOGH Masterpiece at a political & military (tactical and strategic level) anime and also very good plot and character driven. I see a lot of pple puts this anime on top10 in this club. 2. DEATH NOTE. When i watched it for 1st time i just wanted more than this. It has remained my favorite anime for a long time, until LOGH came in. 3. KAIJI. Superb drama and a lot of mind games, deep connection with the character where you can see the contradictions in morals. 2nd season also worth it. And Tokugawa comedy series all recomended. 4. FMAB. Best example on how to combine anime esthetics with a good fantasy but realist plot and good characters 5. SHINSEKAI YORI. Once you watched you realize how good it is. Specially cause the drama evolves in a way you won´t expect (kinda as FMAB) 6. PYSCO PASS: Amazing Plot and Dystopical Future 7. SAO / LOG HORIZON: Shouldnt be in the top10 but i feel a very strong bond and connection with SAO cause i watched in my early´s. LOG H probably is the advanced SAO but it still keeps the elements. 8. AOT: I need to do a rewatch on this anime but is also a masterpiece. I think there are some seasons that are weaker but still the plot and characters are very well executed. As an action lover also, AOT delivers. 9. CODE GUEASS. Similar to Death Note and thats probably why i put here this anime. Must watch for military and political lovers. 10. PARASYTE. A little bit gore but its perfectly executed and want to give credit to an anime not that common. 11. HUNTER X HUNTER. As FMAB HxH deserves to be in top 10, everything is good and combines the aesthetics of anime culture into a good plot good characters and epic final. 12. BLACK LAGOON. Tarantino in anime. Action and short episodes. Also back-up for other specials after. 13. SAMURAI SHAMPLOO. The rap-fi thing got me out and the story and characters are pretty good. Hidden gem 14. MADE IN ABYSS: Offers you a discovery of a new world but hey, discovering new things is also dangerous!! Very creative and original in the "new world", shame is a short anime. 15. DUNBINE: Adventure and Action anime from the start. I really enjoyed it but i can not put it higher cause it has some flaws, still very good old anime to watch if u are eager to be surrounded by non stop action. 16 GASARAKI: Weird anime but, give it a try, is something different and that deserves it. 17 STEINS GATE: What can i say, the Interestellar of Anime. 18 BACCANO: Explores the idea of immortality in a way is interesting. 19 TTGLAGANN: Adventure and action anime. 20. WORLD TRIGGER. I really enjoyed the tactics and strategy on the fights, the story is smooth but i would love more tactics and less anime fan boy drama. For the other persons that commented here I also liked Armored Trooper Votoms (but is not for everyone) Haibane Renmei i didnt get the point of this anime (maybe im stupid but i really didnt like it). Revolutionary Girl Utena is an anime worth watching, each episode gives u a hint of philosophical background but demands you to stop and think what was the meaning for the episode. Mushishi i need to finish watching, but seems good.

Hi, I'm a Spanish speaker, but here's my contribution (using translator). These works independently have their strengths and weaknesses when extrapolating them as top titles, which isn't very simple, since beyond the "ratings," there are many nuances. Some may do some things better than others, but these series are here primarily for: execution, presentation of themes and development, narrative complexity, good writing, and idiosyncrasy (ability to stand out narratively from other works). 1. Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu (1998) 2. Neon Genesis Evangelion/The End of Evangelion (if they can be put together) 3. Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei 4. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood 5. Kaiba 6. NHK Ni Youkoso! 5. FLCL 6. Perfect Blue 7. Kidou Senshi Gundam: The Origin 8. Haibane Renmei 9. Zegapain 10. Serial Experiments Lain I haven't seen Texnholyze yet. Bye.
