Really enjoyed the series—Junji Ito’s imagination is seriously wild and creepy in the best way. I’m not really a fan of Souichi though. He just comes off as annoying and kind of childish, and not in a way I find funny or creepy. I get why some people might like him, but he’s just not for me. In real life, though, he’d definitely be a whole other level of creepy.

Hmm. Not sure what to think about this series. I wonder if the adaption just wasn't good or if the manga stories are actually this weird.

Also I have to say I hate Souichi. What an annoying character... And they adapted three stories with him. One worse than the previous one.

Personally the most intersting ones were (not in this order)
- Fashion Model
- The Lovesick Dead
- Shiver
- The Ongoing Tale of Oshikiri
- Window Next Door
- Town of no Roads
- Gentle Goodbye (not really scary or mysterious but the reveal was really unexpected and changed the mood of the story entirely for me. turned it into something really sad)
- Blood-Bubble Bushes

These had the right kind of atmosphere that you put on late at night when you want to soak in some mild spookyness (or you don't because you are too easily scared like me but in theory that's what you'd do if you wanted to raise your blood pressure).

The rest was kind of ridiculous and made me laugh more than anything. No atmoshphere or any kind of creepyness. It's possible the adaption was the issue but I get the feeling a lot of stories are just made to be grotesque and disgusting but not really horror, or rather what I'd understand as horror. Like some kind of gore-p*rn except it's just disgusting things instead of gore.

Overall the stories were original at least I guess. That's something. I just kind of expected much more scenic horror from how hyped the name Ito Junji is. Really didn't think grotesque is what people find so interesting in horror settings.

On a sidenote, I just watched the promotional video again... It's so much better than the actual anime. How can you fumble this so bad. Give me more of that in the actual episodes. Ironically the stuff in the trailer that piqued my interest was from stories I mentioned above. They did pick the best stuff to pull in viewers.
