The first story, the neighbour window, was interesting, and how end the window next to the young window...finally we know if the young boy was rapped by the "pretty" monster!!! kekeke
The second was a very nice story, and finally, the young girl understood that she was death!!! :/ Sad!!!

That plot twist. Holy shit, I wasn't expecting this. Best episode so far. And this wasn't even a horror story. Maybe they should have just picked Ito's simple supernatural works rather than the bloody ot creepy horror ones, because they cearly can't adapt those normally. But this one was great.

I loved these in the manga! The first story is creepy in the obvious sense at having your privacy almost invaded by an aggressive stranger that comes at night - which whom might murder you, or something else. While the second story is creepy in the sense that you might just be a "ghost" that's going to fade away within short time. I think they're both horror in their own sense.

First one I really liked. The lady's design was over-the-top and the colour palette was a bit off in my opinion, but the story has quite some chill-value to it.

Honestly, a similair story messed me up as a kid; it was Roald Dahl's Witches. A teacher read it to us in early primary school and while it was a kid's book a part of it disturbed me quite a bit; a kid is up in his treehouse and a lady (who happens to be a witch) starts offering him candy from below, meanwhile the kid notices the lady has a snake up her sleeve. The kid is stuck in the tree until his grandma, who is all woke about witches comes to shoo the lady away. Despite forgetting the book, the scene stuck with me and I was schocked, when it all came back to me, when watching the more light-hearted movie adaptation. Talk about a good way to learn about "stranger danger".

With the story time out of the way; the second segment didn't resonate with me. I recently read Fragments of Horror, where it's featured and it's the least interesting in the otherwise really good book. Immediately gave me a bit of a Sixth Sense-wibe and I knew exactly, what we would find out in the end.

The after images part was honestly more sad - not scary at all - which is not what I really expected from this show.

Haha, thanks! I just really enjoyed them putting that at the end of every episode preview, and for awhile I was putting it at the end of all my forum posts in the show's episode discussions, until I decided it would be easier to just make it a signature.

The first story didn't lack resolution. That hideous beast made it into his bedroom, raped him, and then ate him.

That second story made me angry. I don't like how he chose to move on when it was his fault that she became an after-image in the first place. I felt really sad for her, though.

I haven't read the previous manga, but goddamn that first part ended in cliffhanger and I want to see what's gonna happen to him the next night. Does anybody know if it was shown in the manga? That shit creeped me out.

The second part was so sad, though, and that reveal that she's been dead for 10 years. Jeez. It still pisses me off that her so-called husband decided to remarry again despite making her believe that she's been living with him for 10 years. Hahaha. Fuck that second half.

The first part really scared the fuck outta me. Waaah.

5/5.

Sometimes the art is really annoying, there's often times when characters talk but their mouths won't open.... I think this anime would've been better off made by other studio but anyway. The first story wasn't so wow, but it was acceptable. The second one wasn't horror, but it was kinda sad and I liked it.

Loved the second story when I read it in the manga and loved it here too. I really wish they could stick to these stories with more dialogues and storytelling, since they clearly can't animate more "dense" scenes properly.
I hope to see Thing That Drifted Ashore next.

Also, I liked how the first story didn't showed the boy saying they were going to
Makes you wonder if the lady ever reached the boy.

First one was the creepiest yet. I like that abrupt ending, he lets our imagination run, for once. Also, the stick scene is genuinely funny (sexual joke)

I really wanted to see some drama from Ito Junji with paranormal stuff. This second one has a cool concept but lacks explanation.

Overall, the most solid episode yet: 8/10

I am not immature but can you explain that sexual joke?

I am a total newbie. I haven't read the manga and I don't even know about the horror genre in anime. I just thought of checking this anime out and holy frick I am impressed and in awe of the art, soundtrack, visuals, animation. The story telling is great. The stories are short, concise and horrific. This episode just like previous 5 episodes stays up to the mark with all the factors I mentioned above.

I never realized how creepy Frieza's voice was until i heard it on that old lady in the first story

This goddamn Freeza voice. I was sure I knew it, but could not find anything to prove me right. This uncertainty made my feeling of disturbance even bigger. For a person who love privacy this was really unnerving.

There was no need for resolution. What does the lady wants from the boy? NOTHING GOOD. It is quiet obvious.

The second story was magnificent. I was a little reluctant to it, because the start was kinda boring, but it escalated quickly. What I loved the most, was the airy, ethereal feeling despite the heavy-hitting thema. The story was written in the similair fashion to the story about Eternal Dream and boy this is really good drama out there.

It was pretty straightforward in its plot development. Why is anyone questioning the fact that some "after-images" talked and some did not is beyond me. It was so simple that I would feel ashamed to ask it. Even not knowing this, there is not a single reason why it would lower any of the dramatic effect.

Not counting this story and Souichi`s there are a lot of horror stories. For example the first story from this Episode, the stories from EP 3-4 and even the dream story was friggin creepy - to have to dream a nightmare for hundreds of years...

the first one really lack some resolution, i really want to know what happen with this ugly neigbour, what will she do?, how the hell the window is gerting closer?, i guess that’s Junji Ito for you.

the second one is very sad, i found this to be the most lighthearted story from Junji Ito. it’s sad to see that she always afraid of her father’s dead, but she’s already left earlier than him, kind of ironic.

i love the idea of creating an after image of a dead relative, wish i can though, there’s so much that i want to say to may grandma.

Vagueness can be it's own brand of horrifying. An unknown ending allows you to fill in the blanks with a million horrors, whereas a definite ending leaves you with just one.

The lady from the window next door was fucking creepy in the manga and was also creepy in the Anime. However, even if you read the manga, there's no real conclusion. To me, the lady is like some kind of cougar who fancies the handsome, young Hiroshi since she's ugly as fuck.

The second story hurt my heart so much. It was touching and it crushed me a bit. I knew there had to be a twist in there somewhere. I'm so glad she went home to her father in the end. I loved my late father so much that we spent his last years together, I never moved out and took care of him until his death. It's been about ten years since his death. This episode really moved me.

Finally and episode I founded to be great. Didn't happen since episode 2. Though, I'm a bit disappointed with the end of the first half. What happened? What did the creepy neighbour even wanted to do in the end? I was really liking this part all along, but the end felt a bit flat.

Second half was so touching. I couldn't help crying. I feel like the stories that make you reflect on life (like the second half of episode 2) truly are the best ones in that show.

First story was kinda terrible xD if her window came that close and kinda grew in, wouldnt outsiders be able to spot it? And its been told that she's been avoiding contact with people, so it would be awful for her to get caught there. Also i guess she targets males, or young maels in particular while they are alone. And by saying that she wants to see his face, i guess she is just a horny female xD I still will never understand one thing and it happens in japanese horrors the most. When they live in very awful conditions just like that one when a creepy lady calls on you and tries to move closer to you. WHY dont you just sleep somewhere else? even on the floor in your bathroom LOl

I didnt like second story at all nor did i feel sad or emotional, i feel jealous of all the other people who did :v At first it was cool, dreaming of the death of your father and him telling her, he is not gonna die (phew and he actually didnt, SOMEHOW HE MANAGED TO DODGE THAT MANY FLAGS THROWN AT HIM) I thought he was definitely done for when she said she wants to make an after image of him, phewww.
Anyway help me understand what was the point of seeing her father die and setting up so many death flags?

Cut a bit out of Adjacent Window where he swaps rooms with his parents, so it didn't flow as well. One of the weaker stories anyway.

Three years since I read Lingering Farewell, no wonder I could only partially remember it. Works out well since it wasn't until just before the reveal that it hit me.

The Window Next Door was just bad. The story was rushed and didn't flow well at all, and they just put stills of the woman next door rather than actually animate any part of her, making it feel incredibly awkward and not really all that scary. Pretty disappointing.

I did, however, enjoy the Gentle Goodbye story. The twist was interesting and left off on an unusually sad note that Junji Ito usually doesn't do. It was refreshing.

Though again, there were distracting animation errors where the proportions of the characters faces would change in different scenes. The animation of this show is getting irritating now.

The Window Next Door remains decent as a horror, but seeing it come to life in animation was fairly entertaining.
The overall tone with the voice acting, soundtrack, sfx was solid in execution in creeping me out like how I felt from the manga.
The bit of (text through narration) his parents finally believing in him and letting him sleep with them was excluded in the anime, but no matter, this was a very good adaption.
Even though her repeated dialogue is dull, her voice is great. 6/10.

As for, Gentle Goodbye
As a One-Shot, if not overall, it may be the very or at least one of Junji Itou's top very best works. 9/10.
Flawless excellent adaptation to this astounding story.

A family that can produce a "living" after-image of someone who's deceased by meditating as a group with conviction about them, with the after-image lasting for around twenty years so the living can have years to grieve is amazing.
Let alone the epic twist of the little sister being an after-image- even better, like the wife is! Only learning of it after she catches her husband "cheating". Followed by her leaving her new family who never accepted her, back to her father who she's always feared his death, when ironically she died in an accident before she got married.
... I never understood what the meaning is to her fearful dreams of her father's death though.
