Do people hate shoujo?

I know people in this club love shoujo including myself but why do other people hate it or have a negative opinion of it? Like they won't give it a chance because it's for girls. Even girls prefer shounen/seinen. Shoujo has it's problems but its not just about romance. Maybe the demographic should change its image have more diversity in terms of genres, plots, characters, and even authors. There's a lot of female authors who write manga for male but not that may male authors of female orientated manga. I would like to hear your opinions about this on what would you like to see more in shoujo. How it can interesting and ground breaking as shounen and what will it take for more people male or female to read/watch shoujo and josei?

Well, I think some people tend to dislike shoujo because they see it as predictable and heavily focused on romance (and cheesy romance at that). Of course, it's not always like that. There are a lot of anime and manga which show mature and realistic relationships (Nana, Cat Street, Mars...) or focus on other topics, like bullying and/or abuse (Life, X-Day, Zankoku na Kami ga Shihaisuru...), action and adventure (Banana Fish, Tenkuu no Escaflowne...), sci-fi (Please save my earth, 7 seeds...) and so on. It's sad people miss some gems because of the sappy romance image shoujo has.
