Hi! So as mentioned, I'm alive! Everybody start clapping.
Sorry for the wait. I really hope to be more active here again.
Yes! Isn't that crazy? We've been friends ever since. We moved our friendship outside of mal. We even sometimes send each other postcards from holidays hahaha
Probably should have already met up in person after so many years XD
You know what else is funny? Turns out I was unknowingly friends with her bf XD
You could not make that shit up lol
I do understand some German (a little) and a lot of Russian & Japanese.
Dunno if it's just my brain, but understanding a language was always easier for me than using it.
And what was the hardest one out of all those 3 that you mentioned just now
Hm... That's a tough question cuz all of them had some hardships for me. Russian has a lot of similarities in sounds and words to Polish, so it was easier to learn but it has a totally new alphabet that I had to memorize. German has a totally different sound from Slavic languages, so it was really hard to learn new words. The hardest would be Japanese I think as learning kaji is a pain in the ass. It also totally flips the structure of sentences I'm used to.
Sorry if I'm asking a dumb question, but since you said you're diagnosed with depression, did you actually go to a doctor for it or perhaps a specialist?
Yes, I've been seeing a psychiatrist for 2 or 3 years and even had to take medication. I've currently stopped taking it as I don't need it anymore but that doesn't mean my depression just got away. The medication was there just to make it more bearable and currently it's o a level where I can deal with it myself.
Hahaha, the summer lineup was stacked for sure. I still haven't finished some of the summer seasonals ^^"
Please give me a detailed reasoning next time you reply as to why FMAB is your number one spot pleaseeeeee!
I wanna know why it's your personal favorite! :D
Oh Gosh. I will try, but don't feel disappointed as I'm not good at explaining why I like certain things.
Guess it's part of my depression, as ever since it started to creep on me it feels like I don't know what I like and dislike anymore.
I believe it's one of my favourite anime/manga because it was the first anime that left such a big impact on me.
The characters are interesting. All of them have flaws which make them more human. Their relationship dynamic is full of chemistry.
It's full of dark moments but also extremely wholesome ones. It tickles topics of morality, sacrifice, love and war making the stroy more complex.
Wow. Your break was almost as long as the time I took to reply to your comment ;p Why'd you take a break?
Wow, okay. Thanks for telling me something that I already knew when I mentioned you spelled that word correctly ;p
Wow. I'd forgotten about Bones. I began rewatching Suits and am on season 8. I skipped through everybody's personal drama, esp if it was romantic in nature, so you can say I essentially skipped through half of all seasons. I was only ever interested in the legal side of the drama anyway.
Do you rewatch shows?
Wow. Yojimbo is a very old movie. I usually avoid them, mostly bc of poor editing. Did you like it?
i'm confused at what you're refering gustave to (γοΎΠοΎ) for his cutscene ?
yes i started a new game+, and it's amazing how many stuff you can actually discover again, even after different gameplays.
oh, the ending honestly broke me, i hope you're prepared for absolute cinema. have fun finishing the game
the music is absolutely insane yes, i'm so happy lorien, the composer, got an grammy for his work, he trully went beyond
oh the monolith statue ? yeah preorder can be quite long.. i ordered the limited artbook with the golden expedition plate and i'll get it only in january as well
Weeell, italics are usually used to put emphasis, like if I were to say that I really love cats.π Using italics all the time doesn't really have any use so it kinda makes me wonder why you do it.
Do you recall when you started making topics/threads here pretty regularly? :o
Does it seem like I've been doing them forever? I've been around for a long while BUT I only started making threads regularly a year ago, so it's pretty recent. Casual Discussion was getting way too dead for my liking, so I tried to spice things up a bit. Whether people like my threads or not is another issue. π₯²
I wasn't implying that you were old. ππ
I was just messing with ya.π Take care, and if we don't happen to talk until then, Happy Halloween!
It's good to take breaks every once in a while, hope it eased your mind.
Have you done that before with another anime show? You gotta read the manga because you need to know what happens?? Haha
I actually haven't. I haven't read much manga to begin with. Sakamoto Days wouldn't count because I started it way before anime was announced lol
I'm taking a break from reading the manga, but I'm hoping to finish it by the end of the year hopefully!
Take your time and enjoy your rest!
Gacha games? XD
Ohh! That's dopeee. What kind of drawings do you draw? :o
Lol I play random stuff for fun.
I mostly draw anime characters, some turned out great some not as good but it's a fun hobby :)
My other main hobby asides from anime is gaming, but for simple fun, I like taking photos and video editing with my phone. :P
I used to despise photos in general, but now I love 'em. π
That's actually very cool. I like taking photos too though I usually just take pics of the sky LOL. Do you use any specific apps for editing or?
OMG! It is an OVA!! Thanks for dropping the info!
Also, I'm guessing you watched it by now? :P
I did and I was weirded out too LMAO, no wonder you mentioned him. Classic Golden Kamuy behaviour
Edit: I just checked your anime list just now.
Nothing was interesting to you in the fall anime lineup? :o
Yeah I just didn't find anything fun to watch. Though I might start Wandance if I get bored. This season feels dry compared to summer season. How about you, are you watching anything this fall?
not really... but i picked it back up quite recently after a long break of about 4-5yrs or so
was watching jdramas and kdramas during the break from anime
thanks, i'm doing well. hope you are doing good too :)
It really was a beautiful place. I went there every new year, and you could watch the fireworks all across the city from up there on the mountain. The local shrine gave free hot drinks and amazake as well. This'll be my first new year away from there, so I wonder what my new schedule will be.
And yeah, I assume the 00's. I think one of the major hotels burned down (for the second time) in 2003 or so? And was abandoned ever since. Likely it already had dwindling customers. There's another hotel on that route but I don't know its history - it's collapsed though, and you can see all the way inside to the back wall. It was a smaller one than the big one that burned down.
I've only really visited places in Gifu, Osaka, Tokyo, Aichi, Kyoto and Hokkaido - but I've driven across almost every prefecture from Mie to Hokkaido on the northbound "low roads" (aka no highway) route. When I moved from Aichi, I drove up from Aichi, through Gifu, Nagano, Niigata, Yamagata, Akita, Aomori and finally Hokkaido.
My internship’s in coding, so it’s been a mix of exciting and completely brain-melting at the same time lol. I’m slowly learning to survive on caffeine and sheer panic, but it’s going well so far!
Hahaha yeah, the PTW is basically my chaotic little playground—I’m embracing the “never finishing it” life completely now. It’s more fun to have a massive wishlist than a strict to-watch schedule anyway, right?
Ooh, favorite shows… that’s tough, but if I had to narrow it down: Code Geass (even tho i havent finished it lmao), Sailor Moon, Bakemonogatari, Serial Experiments Lain, and Violet Evergarden. I could change my mind tomorrow depending on what I rewatch, though lol. How about you? What are your top 3 that never waver?
And yes… haha, the location in my profile is a little inside joke. Glad someone noticed! (ΰΉ>α΄<ΰΉ)
How’s life been treating you outside of anime lately?
ahhh I'm so sorry for disappearing!! (βΈβΈβΈOοΉ OβΈβΈβΈ) Life got really hectic with my internship and I wasn't in the best headspace, but I'm back now! Thanks for your patience β‘
Haha okay so about the 4500+ PTW thing - you're definitely not the first person to call me out on it! Honestly at this point I've accepted that I'm never finishing it, but I like having all these options available? It's more like a "wishlist of possibilities" than an actual plan lmao. Every time I see something interesting I just can't help myself from adding it. I know it's excessive but it also means I'll never run out of things to discover!
And thank you so much for the detailed recommendations about Steins;Gate and Cowboy Bebop! That's really helpful - knowing Steins;Gate is a slow burn but worth sticking through is good to know. And the episodic nature of Cowboy Bebop sounds really appealing honestly. Definitely adding both to my priority list now!
Also yes, Yuihime is totally fine! That's what most people call me anyway hehe. Or you can call me Yui
What should I call you?
How was your holiday break? Did you went somewhere? :o
yepp i went to japan! it was great, i definitely spent way too much on anime merch lmao. but it was so worth it! it was especially exciting since i was already watching most of the airing summer anime, so there were heaps of events and stuff i could go to. there were so many collabs! if i lived in japan i would 100% be so broke lol
I'm only going to be watching just 3 actually! Thank gawd.LOL
One Punch Man S3, Spy x Family S3, and Boki No Hero Academia Final Season.
What about yourself? Going to be watching 20 shows instead of 40 this fall season? XD
oops, i'm literally watching 40 again this season TT HAHAHAHAHAH like genuinely i'm actually quite enjoying all of them so far. i think there's a lot of... for lack of better words, girl-oriented anime this season? so many like ... villainess/princess type ones. and a handful of romances too. i don't think the overall pick is as exciting as summer but i've been surprised by quite a few so far.
i finally caught up to my hero academia just in time for the final season! the first two eps have been soo hype, i'm glad i caught up in time.
have you tried any of the new fall anime? my personal rec would probably be sanda, it's pretty crazy so far but it's a lot of fun. it's by the same studio who did dandadan so i definitely feel a bit of the absurd whacky vibes.
I'm telling you now. It's going to be one of those shows that are hidden gems as the years go by.
(this was about odd taxi) and yes, i agree, i actually think the overall community opinion on it has really strengthened over the years. and i frequently see it recommended as a "hidden gem", so much so that i feel it's very well known by now LOL. very happy about that, it definitely deserves it!! i can't remember why i watched it, but probably because i heard it was really good. and i remember i even recommended it to one of my coworkers and he ended up loving it - always the best feeling when you recommend something that ends up being liked!
And you're right about having the right headspace for it. It's one of those series where you do have to think what's currently happening, and remember the rest of the other story elements.
(about heavenly delusion) omg yeah, i was trying to reread it from the beginning so i wouldn't forget all the plot points. but then i thought of just rewatching the entire 1st season since it's only like 13 eps. but then yeah... i have no time. AHAHAHAH, first world problems. i definitely will one day... but since the manga is pretty slow at releasing, i guess it's no rush. i'm glad you ended up giving it a go based on my favourites!! that makes me so happy, i definitely think it's underrated and should've blown up when it released. i think it got slightly buried coz that season had a bunch of big names in it... but i'm glad that it at least gained some niche popularity with people who would like that kind of apocalyptic setting.
Spoiler alert: Kaoru Hana is my personal pick for anime show of the summer. βοΈ
so valid, it was fantastic!! i'm already hoping for s2, i'm pretty sure it'll happen since it's popular but, you never know... i need to find time to catch up with the manga. i keep seeing spoilers on twitter!
You start it then, since you have '100 shows' that you were/are watching for the summer lineup. XDDD
I only watched 10 anyways. :P
omg haha your tier list will be way easier than mine!
i didn't think too hard about this but mine would be something like... (i included spring 2025 anime that ended this season)
FAVOURITES / S TIER: takopi, food court, to be hero x, dandadan s2, my dressup darling s2, gachiakuta, with you and the rain, kaoru hana, the summer hikaru died, witch watch
SOLID / A TIER: sakamoto part 2, ginga tokkyuu milky subway, dr stone science future p2, toilet bound hanako kun s2p2, kaijuu no.8 s2, bunny girl senpai s2, silent witch
GOOD / B TIER: nukitashi, leviathan, lord of the mysteries, captivated by you, karaoke iko, tougen anki, mikadono sisters, grand blue s2, betrothed to my sister's ex, clevatess, call of the night s2, sword of the demon hunter
ALRIGHT / C TIER: detectives these days are crazy, watanare, busu ni hanataba wo, the water magician, anne shirley, ruri rocks, game centre shoujo, uglymug epicfighter, hotel inhumans
NOT FOR ME / D TIER: bullet/bullet, new saga, bad girl, fermat no ryouri, nyaight of the living cat, city the animation, turkey
this was almost entirely ranked on enjoyment though lol, i'm not good at being objective. so many s tier anime this season for me!! at first it seemed like i was just being very liberal with handing out S tiers, but nah, genuinely i think summer had so many anime i ended up loving a lot.
in comparison, i think fall 2025 so far will barely get more than 2x S tiers out of me lol (those being gachiakuta which is continuing from summer, and spy x family but that's just because i love the series as a whole, so i'm biased)
speaking of which, you did ask
Also, how do you rate yours? I did read your profile, and it seems to me it's mainly how much you enjoyed the series I presume?
yeah you're right, i think enjoyment is most of how i rate things. but there are some that i didn't necessarily enjoy on a personal level but i can acknowledge are good. i don't have a super thought out rating system, it's mostly by vibes lol.
i think anything 8 and above has to have a level of emotional attachment or enjoyment, otherwise it's just getting a 7 or below. as i watch more anime i've become a lot more picky with what i rate 8 and above. also, i end up comparing anime to ones i've watched before - like if something doesn't match up to another 7/10 anime i've seen, i'll probably rate it lower than 7. so my MAL ratings ended up becoming more of a tier list than any kind of subjective rating... i would consider anime of the same score to be on a similar level, i guess.
it gets a bit tricky for me because some anime aren't subjectively that amazing, but i just really liked them. and i rank them on the same score as a genuinely good anime, that i maybe didn't enjoy as much on a personal level. so in that sense, i think my ratings can be a bit all over the place lol
and also my ratings sometimes change as time passes (usually after the high passes and i realise it probably wasn't as good as i thought it was lol). some anime that i watched in 2015 suffer a bit because i don't really remember much about them, but i rated them 8/10+ at the time... and i've since dropped them a bit since they didn't leave enough of an impression to stick in my mind 10 years later bahahaha
what about you, are your ratings a bit more subjective or are they also mostly based on enjoyment? your avg rating is quite a lot lower than mine so i'd be curious if maybe 7/10 for you is commendably good :') when i first started on mal i was rating a lot higher, so i think 8 was my baseline back then, and anything 7/10 seemed way too low to me. but also i did watch most of the more 'highly rated' stuff and didn't venture into lesser known anime. so this year, i feel like i've watched a wider range lol
A lot of the times as well for me, I can easily spot if they're Aussies! The accent is so distinct to me at least that I can tell it apart! XD
it may be super stereotypical, but i think the reason i began to recognise canadian accents was because of the way you guys say "sorry" HAHAHAH. otherwise tbh, it sounds very similar to an american accent at times.
but yeah, aussie accents can be so obnoxious at times, it's funny lol. especially when i'm overseas, i can immediately identify any fellow aussies based on the accent
Is anime big in Australia btw? Or is it a pretty niche hobby you'd say?
i would say it's still relatively niche, it's not something i can just say to any person i meet. but i think most people would have heard of demon slayer, especially with the infinity castle movie. i know several coworkers who don't really watch anime, say that they watched all of demon slayer to watch the new movie. which is pretty cool! there are a lot of asians in australia (i'm saying this as an asian lol) so i guess within those circles, it's definitely more 'acceptable' to say you like anime. i think most asians i've met have watched a bit or at least heard of it. i do think it's gotten more popular after the pandemic, similar to other countries i suppose. there are some events and stores selling anime stuff in my area. but yeah, overall still not as acceptable as liking sports or something bahahah (it's always super awkward when my coworkers talk about footy - football - because i have 0 clue about any of that, even though it's a massive part of aussie culture)
i remember being super happy when anime movies started showing in my local cinemas. and now it's very common to find foreign films!
what about your area or canada as a whole? i guess it can depend on where you live, maybe if you live in a big city then it'd be more popular than a more rural area.
Also, if you don't reply by October 4th, I just want to say advance Happy Birthday, tear! π
ahhh thank you so much!!! it's been really hectic at work so i feel like i barely got to register and celebrate the fact that it was my birthday lol. i'm glad it was on a saturday! i spent a good chunk of my birthday watching a bunch of new fall anime, so that was really fun LOL
anyway, hope you have a great week ahead!! until the next time we speak~
yupp... from the series, Hinata Shoyo would be my fav... closely followed by Tsukishima, Kenma, and the Miya twins
ig Nishinoya is your fav (from your pfp)?
I am writing back to say I didn't forget about the message/disappear! I been kind of worn day lately (on verge of being sick) and had some computer issues!
I don't know, I just prefer to send comments, it's kinda less of a hassle, I guess? Yeah, I think I might have seen you, your posts are easy to spot when everything you write is in italics for some reason... And sure, CD was overly active back during COVID times. Lots of people didn’t know what to do but eventually all disappeared.
