I wouldn't say I had a good year. All I said was 2019 was better than 2018 and 2017 which were easily the worst years of my life. That being said my mental health deteriorated and and my physical health has gotten worse. Although surprisingly my sleep paralysis has all but vanished in recent months. I lost a lot of respect for myself in 2019 as well after I saw the girl I've had a crush on for 16 years (but hadn't seen in 13 years) at Wal-Mart and I went and hid and left the store instead of talking to her. I can't tell myself things would be different now, I know I'm still pathetic like I was when I should of asked her out when we were 12 and blew my chance.

2018 was previously the worst year in anime history until 2019 came along and was ten times worse. Anime has gotten so bad over the last 5 years. The decline started for me in 2015 but there was still decent shows most seasons until 2017, and now anime doesn't even resemble what it was when I first started watching anime in the early 2000s or when I got back into it in 2009/2010. Half the anime we get now are either sequels to shows I already hated in the first season or Isekai which is without a doubt the worst anime genre. All the genres I like (Ecchi, School, Romance, Drama) are pretty much dead.

I like 2018 anime way more than 2019. Citrus is my favorite anime since 2015. Real Girl is good despite the art getting pretty bad sometimes. Aside from that I only liked a few other 2018 shows (Grancrest War and Devil's Line) and the ReLife Final Arc is decent. However, most of the best looking shows of 2018 didn't get dubbed. Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs looks like the best Ecchi in years but didn't get dubbed because it was licensed by the worst possible company (Aniplex). Bunny Girl Senpai looked really good and it didn't get dubbed for the same reason.

2019 had Real Girl season 2 and that is it for me, dropped almost everything else. My second favorite show of 2018 is easily my favorite of 2019 and I don't think it got any better. The only other thing I liked was Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress: Battle of Unato. Besides for that I only even finished two other anime from 2019, Manaria Friends and My Roommate is a Cat. Those shows are okay at best, the cat show really annoyed me at times, in a normal year it wouldn't finish in my top 30 anime of the year. Kaguya-sama not getting dubbed was of course a major blow as well.

I was happy How Heavy are the Dumbbells you Lift got an anime. My brother is a Bodybuilding fan, and I don't know if I can say I'm a fan but I follow it as well. It was about time there is finally a Bodybuilding anime even if its more of a comedy than a serious sports anime. However this brings up one of the biggest problems with anime in 2019/2020. Western influence through Funimation, Sentai Filmworks, and Crunchyroll all co-producing anime. Funimation caught fire for censoring their release of Tsugumomo, where as the Japanese release is largely uncensored. Since then, Funimation has gotten themselves on the production committee for the shows. This allows Funimation to censor the shows at the source, ruining Ecchi for everyone instead of just ruining their home releases.

How Heavy are the Dumbbells you Lift, Hensuki, and this season Hatena Illusion were all supposed to be Ecchi anime, but the fanservice in all three shows was completely removed and or censored at the source. All three of those manga/novels were Ecchi, none of the anime were. In a time when Ecchi anime were already extremely rare, every show that is supposed to be Ecchi got ruined in 2019 and its happening in 2020 already as well. It's not just Funimation doing this as Sentai Filmworks recently started co-producing anime after receiving $30 million from the Japanese government through their "Cool Japan Fund" in order to do so. Sentai co-produced Val x Love last season and removed almost all the fanservice that had been in the manga. Unlike the three Funimation shows, the Val x Love anime still had a few decent fanservice scenes, but once again they took what should of been the Ecchi show of the season and made it not even Ecchi. Its not just happening to Ecchi shows either, as Sentai also co-produced Assassin's Pride and they removed all the fanservice that was supposed to be in that show as well.

Ecchi and Fanservice is under attack by the very companies licensing and even co-producing them. 2019 saw a Funimation employee (who has since been fired at least) publicly criticizing Fire Force and Fairy Tail for daring to have fanservice. I called him out in this tweet

https://twitter.com/atashinoketsui/status/1160428438563577859

Funimation also permanently ruined the English dub anime community last year by firing Vic Mignogna and attempting to ruin his life while providing no evidence of any wrong doing. This completely split dub fans and now I have a huge hatred for Monica Rial and Jamie Marchi, whose voices were already annoying as fuck but now that I know what kind of horrible people they are, it is very difficult to watch anything they are in, including Fairy Tail. And Sentai keeps casting Monica more than ever and it has directly caused me not to watch several shows I otherwise would have. There is no coming back from this, several voice actors permanently ruined their reputations and I will attempt to avoid watching shows with them in it at all costs, severely damaging both past anime and anime of the future.

I've typed all this and I haven't even gotten to the fact that today's anime are extremely ugly compared to anime that aired just a few years ago. Everyone laughed at Marchen Madchen, now just two years later most shows either look just as bad at times or have delays to keep from becoming a laughing stock themselves. We're in a sad period where animation is considered more important than art quality and art style, and it has already backfired. It doesn't matter if a show has great animation, if the drawings themselves are ugly, the show will not hold up well. Fairy Tail is a perfect example. The first 175 episodes have a brilliant art style that everyone loved. Meanwhile the 2018/2019 season has the best animation Fairy Tail has ever had, but no art style and the worst drawings. As a result, the episodes from 2009 to 2013 look the best, the episodes from 2014 to 2016 look almost as good, and the episodes from 2018 to 2019 look the worst. My Teen Romantic Comedy Snafu is making the same mistake. The first season of that show has ugly drawings but the art style is unique and interesting. The second season has much better drawings but the show looks worse because it lacks style, it looks very generic. Judging by the PV for season 3, it will make the same mistake season 2 did, and thus create another situation where the 2013 anime looks better than the 2020 one.

+Ultra is another problem with the industry now. While I was happy that a block of anime that automatically gets licensed by Netflix in the west (and therefor automatically gets dubbed) now exists, the problem is +Ultra's goal. Taking a quote from their wikipedia page "the block is based on the concept of spreading anime culture overseas with high-quality animation for the world". Essentially, they are creating anime specifically for the western fans and hoping the Japanese fans also like it. This is the opposite of how things have always been done and in my opinion should always be done, which is creating anime that is 100% Japanese, for Japanese people, and if western fans like it, thats a bonus. This is why I didn't watch Carole & Tuesday. I was considering watching it, but then I saw on her MAL page one of the characters is a Beyonce fan. Seriously? That kind of pandering annoys me. Not to mention I hate Beyonce. For similar reasons I probably won't watch The Great Pretender, or any +Ultra show.

Finally getting to the Fairy Tail comments. I mostly hated the new OPs/EDs from 2018/2019 for most of the same reasons I hate the season overall, and that is the lack of the main character. Lucy is barely shown in most of the last few OPs/EDs and I hate them for that. Down by Law as a song isn't bad, but its nowhere near as good as my favorite Fairy Tail OPs like Masayume Chasing, Never-End Tale, Snow Fairy, or Mysterious Magic. I will admit, I still haven't listened to the last two Fairy Tail OPs, both because the Fairy Tail OPs usually show spoilers for the upcoming episodes and I still didn't watch some of them, and because I was nervous I would hate the new OPs/EDs like I did the first two of the season so I just skipped them.

I still haven't watched the last ten episodes and I really don't know if or when I will. I'm 41 episodes into the final season and so far, Lucy still hasn't really done anything. She never fought Brandish (obviously isn't going too), she never showed off her new powers that came with her new forms in a serious battle, she's just been on the sidelines while random characters like Sting get fights. It's really upsetting. A few years ago I started seeing manga readers say "I miss the old Fairy Tail" all the time on sites like Youtube and DeviantArt and I had no idea what they meant. Now I do. This arc is horrendous so far, easily the worst major arc. I don't care about Zeref, Mavis, Irene, August, etc. I care about Lucy, Juvia, etc you know the actual Fairy Tail members! This arc is way too long and this whole season has completely lacked the usual upbeat and fun nature of Fairy Tail. It feels like their trying to be Dragonball Z and forgot what Fairy Tail was all about and why people liked it.

I was on the fence last year when I was invited to join the "Anti Erza Club" on MAL but now, I can't stand Erza anymore. Her fight in Tartaros against Kyouka was one of the worst ever and the fact she lost all 5 senses and still won was terrible writing, it was completely unjustified and quite frankly it was an awful moment. People who don't like Fairy Tail claim the show relies on "the power of friendship" which is utterly false 99% of the time (and a joke because Yu Yu Hakusho every major fight is won by the power of friendship but they don't criticize that show). However in that fight the complaint is valid. Erza vs Irene is only slightly better as at least Erza didn't lose all 5 sense this time, but yet again Erza was backed into an insurmountable corner, and won. And no, the Fairy Tail character shouldn't and doesn't have to win every fight, remember, Lucy lost to Flare (and was the only Fairy Tail member to lose in the Grand Magic Games, yes that still pisses me off greatly).

Then the thing with Makarov happened whille Natsu and Gray were fighting. They teased that Lucy and Juvia were going to break up the fight, and that would of been a great moment with Lucy standing in front of Natsu to stop him from hitting Gray and Juvia doing the same with Gray to stop him from hitting Natsu. Instead, Erza jumps in out of nowhere and holds them both back with a single hand. I actually said out loud "ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!?" I was so mad when that happened, no other series disrespects the main character the way Fairy Tail disrespects Lucy. It is so infuriating how she is constantly thrown aside. It happened here and there in the past, but she was always given her time after word to do something important. This time it is the entire season at least as of 41 episodes in, with only 10 left, there isn't a lot of time left.

So I don't know if I will finish it. Fairy Tail is no longer my favorite anime because of this season. I honestly would of preferred if Fairy Tail ended with Fairy Tail 2014 to 2016's ending with Lucy and Natsu setting out to re-form Fairy Tail. The first 41 episodes of this season have mostly been pointless. Lucy still hasn't confronted Natsu about him ditching her for an entire year after Tartaros either (she tried early in this season but was interrupted), and Natsu and the other characters still don't even know about the fact Lucy saved all their lives by breaking Aquarius key, defeating Jackal, and summoning the Celestial Spirit King. Lucy doesn't get any credit. Infuriating isn't a strong enough word!

I was excited for awhile about the Fairy Tail game, until I heard its not gonna have an English dub! Fairy Tail is the most popular English dub, its absolutely preposterous to release the game in the west with no dub but that's what their doing. I'm also really annoyed that I still haven't seen Lucy's first outfit in the game. The white top with the blue cross on it, with her hair down, her main outfit and my favorite one (besides Naked Lucy of course).

So I won't be getting the Fairy Tail game. They did delay it from March to June, but I doubt they will add a dub since they said the delay was for making the graphics better or whatever.

Hiro Mashima said at the beginning of the year he was working on some surprises for 2020. I don't know if they are Anime or Manga related. Hopefully one of them is a Fairy Tail anime. I would be happy with a new OVA or series of OVAs, or a spin-off manga getting an anime. Maybe a movie. It could also be Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest, but I'd prefer one of the spin-offs (Fairy Girls or Fairy Tail City Hero would be what I want).

Thank you.

2019 for me personally was better than the previous couple years at least. However, it was the worst year in anime history in my opinion.

Please take your time and get back to me when you feel up to it. Honestly, it's been so long I don't particularly remember what I said.
