Premise : The premise is........interesting. Schools right next to each other, that have issues with eachother, even the teachers have issues with them, and guess what, it was never explained why and this premise leads to some drama being dumped upon me, when I dont even know why I have to care about the drama in the first place, no emotional weight or anything like that, it was just bleh
Characters : The Fans of this show give major praise to the well written characters, and im wondering, how are they well written? The only ones that are at least written are Subaru and Rintarou and even they have similar issues to what the same type of writing premise has, you want to know what it is? Giving you drama without substance.
Subaru basically had her "character development" which was also very poorly executed due to the fact that, 1. They never gave a reason why she was a wreck, besides the shit premise giving her a reason to not approach the rentarou and his boys and the boys making fun of her hair when she was a child, which fine? But at the same time, for the way she was acting?? that is not the best route the author took in writing her character at all, but she was the most "interesting" character.
Its the same thing with Rentarou, the author gives me a possible reason for why he is the way he is, but never dives deep into it, the author just leaves it up there, so people can just eat it up. Once again, just like Subaru, it dosent really justify his feelings on why he thinks the way he does, even though the story is telling me "he is feeling this way". As for the other characters....... Arisu Tachibana is better written then the rest of the characters combined
The Romance : So what happens when you have Renatarou, a pretty meh character and Koaruko, another meh character and also add not much chemistry between the two? A romance that just falls to meh.
For the most part, I keep my expectations in check and never let them get ahead of myself, but this was one of the few anime that I had very high expectations for, and it completely dissapointed me, I was kinda shocked, like "there is no way people were calling this a great romance manga". How this manga/anime is praised this highly and given the "well written" label is insane, when in reality this show is a 7/10 at best and 5/10 at worst, its nowhere near well written, not even close to it.
